From Inspiration to Mood Board using Birds as a starting point
The decor in every room in your home should start with a source of inspiration, whether it’s a photo of a bird, an object you treasure, or a memory of a great trip. I like using birds as a way of explaining the process of translation, which you can then use for other inspirational starting points going forward.
You can simply watch the video to understand the concept of translation (which all of the video tutorials in this section of the Slow Style Society are set up to do), or you can actually try your hand at creating your own “bird board.” In the video, I show you how to create a mood board using a photo of a bird as inspiration. In case you’re not sure, a mood board is something a designer might create as a place to keep visual references for a room all in one place. On a mood board, you’ll typically see color and pattern swatches, photos of furniture pieces and any inspiration photos that s/he’s pulling from.
Watch the video, below, for instructions.
Download the instructions with links to resources, including free online mood board apps, in case you want to do it virtually.
There are two separate documents with bird photos. Here are birds 1-10. Here are birds 11-20.
You can also find your own photos of birds if you’d prefer.
